About the Mural

Written by Thao Huynh French

Nika Shakarami’s profile is painted here with her head held high with red waves of blood and fabric flowing around her. When she took off her hijab and lit it on fire, blood spilled from her body at the hands of the Islamic Regime. The flowers growing from her body is an offering of a proper funeral she never had. May her story live on through the voice and art of thousands. Her act of defiance ultimately cost her her life but will inspire and give birth to new brave people and make way for a rebirth and revolution for Iran.
